On 29th June 2018, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) held a Public Hearing in respect to the Application for License by Mpanga Hydro Uganda Limited, for the Generation and Sale of 7.8 MW of electricity from Nyamwamba II Hydropower Project. The Project will be constructed on River Nyamwamba in Kilembe Sub-County, Kasese District.

While addressing the Project Affected Persons, the Resident District Commissioner of Kasese District, Mr. Muhindo Aminadabu, commended ERA and the Project Developer for the Project. He requested the Project Developer to employ local people, especially the Project Affected Persons and to procure materials for the construction of the Project from local suppliers. Mr. Muhindo also requested the Project Developer to consider rehabilitation of community amenities such as schools, roads and health centers as a way of giving back to the community.

The ERA Environmental Specialist, Mr. Peter Kityo, who presided over the Public Hearing on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, informed the Project Affected Persons that ERA had taken note of the views raised at the Hearing. Mr. Kityo noted that the Authority would consider the views presented at the Public Hearing while taking a decision on the Application for License by Mpanga Hydro Uganda Limited. The Project Affected Persons welcomed the Project by a “show of hands”.

The Public Hearing was held at Kyambogho Church of Uganda, and was attended by among others; the Resident District Commissioner of Kasese District, a representative of the Member of Parliament for Busongora South Constituency, the Local Council I and III Chairpersons of Kilembe Sub-County, Project Affected Persons and other community members.
