On 1st November 2018, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) prosecuted Ms. Nantongo Hannipher and Mr. Mugabi John Paul, both residents of Nyanama in Wakiso District for impersonation, contrary to Sections 383 (1) and 345 (d) of the Penal Code Act and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, contrary to Section 391 of the Penal Code Act.

According to the ERA Investigative Team, Ms. Nantongo Hannipher was on 4th April 2018, found selling Notification leaflets to Mr. Wamala Yusuf, who needed a new electricity connection. The leaflets and Installation Permit belonged to Mr. Mugabi John Paul, a Certified Wireman with ERA Installation Permit Number ERA/EIP/CLD/015/0451.

Both Nantongo and Mugabi were presented before the Chief Magistrate; Patricia Amako of the Standards, Utility and Wildlife Court (Electricity Court) at Buganda Road Court and denied the charges.

The Magistrate requested ERA to present evidence against the accused before court.

According to the Electricity Regulatory Authority Prosecutor, Ms. Kyohairwe Charlotte, evidence beyond reasonable doubt against the accused is available to enable Court reach a verdict.  The Magistrate set 19th December 2018 as the judgment date for the case.
