For the Fourth consecutive time, Uganda’s Electricity Regulatory Framework has emerged Number one in the 2021 Electricity Regulatory Index (ERI) released by the African Development Bank.

The ERI is a composite index that measures the Development of the Electricity Sub-Sector Regulatory Frameworks in African Countries against the International Standards and Best Practices. It is a product of the Power, Energy, Climate Change and Green Growth Complex of the African Development Bank.

According to the ERI, Uganda has a well-developed Electricity Regulatory Framework. Its Regulator-the Electricity Regulatory Authority has the capacity to exercise the necessary Regulatory Oversight and Authority on the Regulated Entities and the entire Electricity sector.

Uganda competed against 43 countries and achieved the highest Electricity Index score at 0.823 compared to the lowest score achieved by Congo Republic at 0.025. The other countries that performed well in the Index included Kenya, scoring 0.688, Tanzania 0.669, Namibia 0.663, and Egypt at 0.609.
