On the 13th of October 2022, at a ceremony officiated by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) commissioned a Consumer Protection and Installation Permits Center at its premises located at Plot 15, Shimoni Road, Nakasero.

While speaking at the Commissioning, Hon. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu applauded the Electricity Regulatory Authority for this initiative noting that consumers now have a place to run in case they are dissatisfied with the services of power distribution companies. The Minister commended ERA for its tremendous contribution to the transformation and efficiency of the Electricity Supply Industry.

The Minister further expressed concern over the growing rate of vandalism noting that it is causing the Country tremendous loss and frustrates the Government’s effort to extend power to rural areas.

Dr. Sarah Wasagali Kanaabi, the ERA Board Chairperson in her remarks appreciated the support of the Government to the Electricity Supply Industry and pledged the Authority’s commitment to ensuring that the Industry effectively supports the Government’s agenda of transforming the Country to middle-income status.

The Chief Executive Officer of ERA, Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako on the other hand echoed ERA’s focus on the quality and reliability of power supply noting that with a Consumer Protection Centre in place, ERA will improve its efficiency in monitoring the quality of services delivered by power distributors. She further indicated that noted that the newly established Centre will host other services including; regional corporations, Research and Consultancy.
