ERA Signs Memorandum of Understanding With GIZ

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) on 26th March, 2024, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The MoU aims at enhancing the regulatory environment with modern Regulatory mechanisms for improved Electricity access in line with the national Electrification Strategies, Policies, and Legal framework.
Under this Memorandum of Understanding, ERA Commits to work with GIZ on aspects including but NOT limited to the following:
- The Distributed Generation Framework;
- The National Cost of Service Study;
- E-Transport Regulation;
- Competitiveness of Commercial and Industrial Off-Grid Installations;
- Productive Use of Electricity in Off-Grid systems; and,
- Capacity development of ERA Staff.
Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako, the ERA Chief Executive Officer, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of ERA, while Mr. James Macbeth Forbes, the Country Director – GIZ signed on behalf of the GIZ.
On behalf of the Authority, Eng. Waako reiterated ERA’s commitment to achieving the objectives specified in the Memorandum of Understanding with confidence that this will bring about transformative change and pave way for Uganda’s brighter-energy future.
Mr. Macbeth appreciated ERA for being the most notable partner and reaffirmed GIZ’s commitment to the MoU to ensure that it produces the intended results.
The signing ceremony took place at the New ERA House, Plot 5C – 1, Industrial Area Lugogo.
