For the period July 2024 to June 2025, overall energy purchases and sales at distribution stood at 6,151 GWh and 5,100 GWh, respectively, representing 11% growth in both purchases and sales compared to 5,533 GWh and 4,592 GWh in 2023/2024. Distribution purchases and sales registered 46% and 48% growth, respectively.
Additionally, Â with effect from August 2024, West Nile Rural Electricity Company Ltd (WENRECO) and Kalangala Infrastructure Services (KIS) ceased to operate as off-grid distributors following their interconnection to the main national grid. As such, the distribution network is operated by three major distribution utilities, that is, Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (UEDCL), WENRECO, and KIS.Â
Energy losses are computed as the difference between the energy purchased and the energy sold. As of June 2025, distribution energy losses slightly increased to 17.1% across the entire distribution network as compared to 17% by the end of the previous period.
