The Women in Energy Project is an ERA initiative launched in March 2019. It seeks to increase women’s participation and leadership in Uganda’s Energy Sector by motivating, inspiring, and mentoring young women to make informed career and life decisions.
A 2019 study by UWESO and Hoima District revealed that over 4,800 school-age children had dropped out of school, many due to limited exposure and lack of role models. This project addresses such challenges by promoting STEM education and career pathways in energy.
1. School Outreach Program
Each year, women professionals in the Energy Sector visit schools to deliver inspirational talks and career guidance. These visits encourage students to pursue STEM subjects and careers in energy, helping bridge the gender gap in the sector. By 2025, ERA had reached over 78 schools across Uganda.
